The Bride’s Perspective
Describe Your Engagement
Andrew and I had discussed marriage and I told him he had to wait to propose until we had been dating for a year. In August 2018 during my family vacation, Andrew decided to drive back to Mishawaka to bring his mom up for the day. Little did I know, he was also picking up the ring! That evening on our nightly boat ride, he asked me to look through some pictures he had printed to decide which to display in our new house. As I flipped through and looked at the last picture, it was Andrew down on one knee. I was stunned and looked between the picture and him and back again. By now he was actually down on one knee asking me to marry him and still shocked, I said yes!
Describe Your Wedding Vision
For the ceremony, we knew we wanted an intimate feeling location and the Chapel at the Morris Estate was the perfect option! The little white chapel nestled in the wooded surrounding area fit well with the nature-inspired elements we liked. Then with our tent reception held at The History Museum in South Bend, we knew we wanted an elegant garden feel. Crystal chandeliers, hanging greenery, and an unconventional layout were all incorporated into the reception. Andrew’s favorite color is teal, so when we first saw the floral pattern linen, it sparked the inspiration for the multiple tablescapes.
Describe Your Wedding Day
Our wedding day was an absolute fairytale! We had the most beautiful fall October day with the sun shining and warm temperatures! It was so memorable that we were able to spend the morning with our bridal party as the girls all got their hair and makeup done while the guys hung out. Every member in our immediate families played a role in the ceremony—from our siblings in the bridal party, as ushers, or reciting readings, to all our nieces and nephews as the ring bearers and flower girls, it was so meaningful! Afterward, I surprised Andrew with pictures on the field at Notre Dame since he’s a huge fan! We had a “reveal” when we arrived at the reception and it was everything we dreamed of and more! The team at Burns Special Events truly did an outstanding job with design, décor, and floral; and we heard nothing but raves regarding the food from Lasalle grill before everyone danced the night away with Blammo band!
Your Advice to Engaged Couples
Having a planner and day of coordinator to take care of all the little things I didn’t think of, especially the last couple weeks before the big day, was invaluable! I didn’t have to worry about creating a timeline, the seating chart, menu cards, or checking in with all my vendors because it was taken care of. There’s a lot of emotion on the day of the wedding so it was worth it to not worry about us or our families “working” the day of having to manage the timeline, vendors, set up, and clean up. It was so nice to be able to just enjoy the day and live in the moment!
