Katherine Murray Photography: What struck me most about Lauren and Bryan’s wedding was that it was very much a family affair. They are High School Sweethearts, and therefore, their blended families have been involved in their lives for many years. The Bride’s Mother and Grandmother, Ann and Mary, poured their heart and soul into every last detail and it showed. Both the Bride’s Mother and the Groom’s Mother were even present at their engagement session (they were very careful not to interfere), which took place at Lauren’s Father’s farm in LaPorte, IN. There were many family members and friends who had a hand in planning this event and therefore, we didn’t see as many people pulling out their smartphone to take photos as we usually do. They wanted to really enjoy the event they spent so many months planning. I’m sure having a lot of family members involved was stressful at times, but it made most of the guests really be present and vested in the day. They even hired a band to play the entire reception. It has been quite a long time since I’ve photographed a wedding that had a live band instead of a DJ. I love a great DJ, but it was a nice surprise to see a real person putting on a show. I felt like I was at a private concert, which I’m sure was by design. My favorite weddings to photograph are ones that truly reflect the couple and their families and that is why this one really made a lasting impression.
